Samsung has developed and unveiled the Exynos W920, the first in the wearable device industry, using a 5nm process technology. The processor will be used in next-generation wearable devices such as wristwatches.
The Samsung Exynos W920 case houses two ARM Cortex-A55 cores, a Mali-G68 GPU, an LTE module, a power management controller, LPDDR4x RAM, and eMMC storage. All this fits into the smallest existing case with Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging technology.
Also, the processor is equipped with an Always-on-display function. It allows the use of special energy-efficient Cortex-M55 cores so that you can read the notifications on the screen, check the time or look at the missed call notification without the need for high-performance cores, which increases the autonomy of the end device.
“ Wearable devices like smartwatches are no longer just cool gadgets. They are now a growing part of our lifestyle to keep you fit, safe and alert. ”- Harry Cho, VP of Marketing System LSI at Samsung Electronics.
The first use of the Samsung Exynos W920 processor is planned for the upcoming Galaxy Watch.
