Crucial P5 Plus is another PCIe 4.0 SSD with 176-layer 3D NAND

Crucial announced in a press release a new SSD - the Crucial P5 Plus. The novelty expands the company's line of solid-state drives to the current PCIe 4.0. The new generation provides not only higher speeds, but also higher data density along with lower power consumption.

Crucial promises sequential read speeds of up to 6,600 MB / s, nearly double the speed of the previous generation. The sequential write speed has increased by 66%. The reason lies not only in the transition to PCIe 4.0, but also in the use of the Micron's 176-layer NAND memory, namely 176L 3D TLC NAND. The SSD is driven by a Micron 8-channel controller that runs with a 1GB DRAM cache. Crucial says the mean time between failures (MTBF) is over two million hours. The SSD will ship in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. And the write load indicator (TBW for 1 TB) is 600 TB.

The SSD has been tested on a variety of Intel and AMD platforms, including 11th Gen Intel Core processors and AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors, Crucial said. The company claims a 67% increase in random read speed and a 40% increase in random write speed over the previous generation. Moreover, the model supports backward compatibility for installing SSD in systems with only PCIe 3.0 support.

For ease of use, Crucial offers proprietary Storage Executive Management software to help you optimize performance, ensure data security, and update firmware. For a quick start, there is also a function to clone a system from another SSD.

Crucial backs the P5 Plus with a 5-year warranty. In Europe at the moment, the prices are as follows: 108.28 euros for the 500 GB version, 179.68 euros for the 1 TB model and 368.89 euros for the oldest with 2 TB memory
