Xpeng, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, this week announced the start of deliveries of its flagship P7 sedan to the European market. This is in line with the ambitions of carmakers to expand into international markets.
According to reports, the first batch of Xpeng P7 electric vehicles has already left the Chinese city of Guangzhou for Norway. The company is shipping its flagship electric sedan outside of the home market for the first time. Interestingly, Norway became the first international market for Xpeng, which had already started supplying G3 crossovers to this European country.
The choice of the Scandinavian country as one of the directions for business expansion is not surprising, since it is here that 54% of new cars sold last year were electric. It is also known that the Chinese company intends to accelerate work on creating the necessary infrastructure in the country, including service centers, charging stations, sales centers, etc. Chinese company Nio, which competes with Xpeng, also plans to start shipping its cars to Norway later this year.
Note that Xpeng is actively ramping up production and working on the launch of new models as competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market intensifies. Xpeng this month announced plans to double production capacity at one of its key factories. Earlier this year, the company launched the P5 electric sedan , which is a potential competitor to the Tesla Model 3. The manufacturer intends to ship P5 electric vehicles outside of the Chinese market in the future, but when exactly this may happen is still unknown.
To spur its expansion, Xpeng registered in the United States last month and held an IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Xpeng reportedly shipped 8,040 EVs in July this year, a record for the company and a 228% increase from last July's shipments.
