OPPO presented its research advances in fast charging technology . The show took place as part of the Flash Charge Open Day event.
As noted by Jeff Zhang, Chief Scientist for OPPO VOOC Flash Charge, the development of OPPO VOOC Flash Charge technology covers all elements of the fast charging system, including the charging adapter, charging cable, PMIC, battery and more. The company is exploring new materials, AI algorithms, charging design, and other factors that can be used to drive innovation.

Thanks to its achievements, OPPO has been able to implement a five-fold protection system to improve the safety of using VOOC Flash Charge. Using a fuse helps protect the battery by physically isolating it from the power source. OPPO has used gallium nitride switches in its smartphones for the first time. Their high voltage operation helps to reduce heat generation, improve charging efficiency and improve reliability.
The internal battery design adopts a two-cell design, which allows two battery cells to be combined into one structure and makes the system more compact without compromising safety performance.
OPPO uses a battery security chip in its systems. It uses AI and is able to detect errors in the operation of batteries from external damage and voltage drops in real time.
The new safety battery is equipped with a special slip ring that uses a new composite material sandwiched between aluminum layers. The "sandwich structure" is coated with an additional protective material, which ultimately forms a five-layer composite structure. Testing in the OPPO lab has shown that the new battery passes crash test tests with a 100 percent success rate, providing reliable short circuit protection.
OPPO also unveiled its new charging current control technology based on intelligent detection of various scenarios. This reduces premature battery wear and ensures optimum battery life.
OPPO's smart charging technology has the potential to deliver measurable improvements in many aspects of battery performance. For example, the battery capacity is maintained at 80% of the original capacity after 1500 charge cycles. 65W SuperVOOC technology increases smart charging speed by approximately 20%, allowing you to fully charge a 4500mAh battery in 30 minutes. The new technology provides a balance between optimal charging current and subsequent temperature rise.
OPPO is also exploring ways to apply fast charging technology in extreme situations, such as charging in very cold conditions. The company uses intelligent algorithms to determine the optimal charging temperature for the battery, as well as increase the temperature before starting the process.
As of June 30, 2021, OPPO has already applied for over 3,000 patents related to fast charging technology.
