Xiaomi takes new steps towards its first electric car

After much speculation, the last month of March brought a big confirmation for all Xiaomi fans. The company will finally enter the automobile segment, and has even started to hire through its official website for very specific positions.

As reported on the website Gizmochina, Xiaomi is expanding its team to advance in the production of its first electric vehicle. “Data, decision and planning platforms, high-precision maps, simulation or integrated software” are just some of the positions for which Xiaomi is looking for collaborators.

It's good to bear in mind that Xiaomi has already established a new subsidiary that will handle the electric vehicle business. The source says the brand expects to invest 1.2 billion euros initially. After 10 years, this investment should surpass 8 billion euros.

Xiaomi doesn't seem to look at this segment as just another "hobby" where the brand invests resources. This is because the brand's CEO, Lei Jun, will personally lead the brand's automotive segment.

It is known that Xiaomi will work together with the Great Wall Motor Company Limited, and use their infrastructure. In case you didn't know, this is the biggest Chinese SUV and pickup manufacturer.

To date, there are no predictions as to when Xiaomi's first electric vehicle might hit the market. But taking into account the bet and the way the ad was made, the goal will be to make it available to all consumers.
