Tesla Model 3 became the 16th best-selling car in the world with 800,000 units sold

Tesla has so far sold more than 800,000 Model 3s. With this figure, the Model 3 has not only broken the sales record of the Nissan Leaf, but has also come a long way from it. As you may know, the Japanese automaker achieved a record sales of 500,000 Leafs last year. Given this record, the Model 3 is now the 16th best-selling car in the world among all gasoline and electric models.

A record 800,000 units have been achieved for the Tesla Model 3, while this car has been on the production line since 2018. In contrast, the Nissan Leaf entered the market in 2010 and now two generations of it are on the streets of the world.

Achieving such a position is really admirable for a car produced by a 14-year-old company. According to Focus2Move, Tesla sold 439,760 Model 3s in 2020, almost a third of the world's best-selling Toyota Corolla, which is a very good achievement in its own right.

But at the top of the table, the Toyota Corolla became the most popular car in the world in 2020 with sales of 1,134,262 units. After this car, Ford RAV4 and Ford F series are in the next ranks.

You probably know that the popularity of different models varies from region to region. In the US market, for example, the Ford F-150 is the undisputed king and has the highest sales record of all models, while Europeans have little interest in pickups.

The situation is reversed in the field of electric cars, and such models are more popular on the Green Continent, although the Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cyber Truck are expected to overtake electric models in the United States in the not-too-distant future.

Existing statistics show that sales of electric vehicles in Europe grew by 147% last year; Due to the increasing acceleration of the reception of this category from January, we are expected to see more growth by the end of 2021.

It is worth mentioning that Renault Zoe is the best-selling electric model of the Green Continent, and the Europeans bought 99,261 units of this small city car last year. After Zoe Tesla, Model 3 is in the second place with 85,713 units sold.

In China, the world's largest car market, the popularity of electric models is extremely high and their number is increasing every day. In April, the Wooling EV became the most popular electric car and now sells for almost twice as much as the Tesla Model 3. Interestingly, this car is very close to the one-year sales figures of the Model 3 and will soon surpass it!

Sales figures for the various models in April show another interesting point, and that is that the Model Y is overtaking the Model 3 on a global scale. This is rooted in the growing popularity of high chassis, which is a widespread fever.

The Y model surpasses the Model 3 in a situation where this electric crossover is not yet widely available in Europe. Volkswagen ID.4 is similarly passing its hatchback sibling ID.3.

It goes without saying that with the introduction of new electric models by traditional carmakers and strong startups, we will soon see major changes in the list of the best-selling cars in the world.
