The critical attitude against Apple by Spotify continues. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has told Bloomberg that he expects Apple to open up further, following the antitrust complaint that Spotify filed against Apple in the European Union.
If you have followed this topic in the last few months, you will know that the reasons that Spotify comes from the exhaustive control that Apple exercises over the applications on its own platform. In Ek's own words, the apple company acts simultaneously as a player and referee, deliberately harming third-party applications. For the CEO of the streaming music service, Apple purposely limits the functions of third-party applications by not allowing them to offer the same experience as native applications.
Spotify's financial reasons
On the other hand, there are economic reasons that also influence that Spotify is becoming a discordant voice within the iOS application ecosystem. These reasons are mainly due to the 30% that Apple takes away of all in-app purchases made within apps. In the case of Spotify, when a user subscribed to the service using the Apple payment gateway, the 30% of that subscription was for those of Cupertino.
Apple has already started making changes since Spotify started its litigation. For example, Siri now supports other music services, and Spotify can make use of the voice assistant. On the other hand, we already have available the official applications for the Apple TV and the Apple Watch . In the latter case, it is not clear if Apple was hindering the arrival of Spotify on these devices or not. In fact, other competitors already had their applications available for these devices.

However, these changes do not seem to be enough and Daniel Ek explicitly requests that Apple continue to open up to build an “open and fair platform”.
