But on Friday (10) Apple's design chief, Jony Ive explained that the stage was set for an event that celebrates the opening of Apple Park and that will also serve as a tribute to Steve Jobs, who conceptualized the campus in aircraft format.
The event will be held May 17 only for Apple employees. The stage surrounded by a cover in the colors of the rainbow was "discovered" by a drone that flew over campus this week.
The bow received the same colors as the original Apple logo. Beyond the stage, located in an open area and without trees, were installed reflectors to illuminate the artist on the day of the presentation.
The Ive design team has created the multicolored bow in partnership with a concert assembly company.
He says in an interview with Cult of Mac that conceptualizing the design took months of work - the stage features 30 machined components that make it easy to build and remove structures at special events. In total, there are 25,000 pieces, including the stage itself and the metal skeleton underneath.
According to Ive, the overall goal was "to create a stage that would immediately become recognizable as the Apple Stage." The colors of the rainbow were chosen because "they have been part of [Apple's] identity for many years."
I've also said that the presence of the rainbow is "deeply felt in many places" and that, at the end of the day, it is difficult to find someone who does not love a rainbow.
"The rainbow is also a positive and joyful expression of some of our values of inclusion and I think that's one of the main reasons why the idea resonated so immediately," said the designer.
I've even said that the bow was chosen because it is a three-dimensional object capable of being appreciated from all angles, not just from the front. "My office at Apple Park sits on the outside of the perimeter, but I can see the rainbow reflected from the ceiling as far as I sit in. That's not really planned, but it's one of those lucky accidents."
It looks like the rainbow will not be a permanent attraction on campus, but it may be relocated to future Apple Park-hosted events.
There are not many details about the Apple event for employees, but it is known that a big name artist will perform on stage. Visitors will be unable to enter the campus during the day of the event.
