Microsoft launches Windows Defender extension for Chrome and Firefox

The Microsoft launched its test program Windows Defender Application Guard version also for Chrome and Firefox. This is an extension of the company's own security-oriented navigation, once exclusive to Edge.

The company as a whole has taken the position that it is better to use its services, even on other platforms, than to ostracize in general. With this, it is now also possible to install the extension in both browsers.

Windows Defender scans the site and checks to see if it is on the company's trusted list. If not, it is also capable of preventing Windows intrusions from your computer. The mechanism is known to be a first barrier against hacking attacks, especially phishing by email. This type of action refers to when a hacker sends a false link via email.

Although it works in both Chrome and Firefox, the extension still needs Edge as well. That's because that's where the page is evaluated. Thus, when the user enters a site detected as unreliable, the Edge will automatically open in a new tab stating the risks. As every Windows user probably already has the Microsoft browser installed, this is not likely to be a problem.

Another issue is that the user also needs to install the Windows defense app through the Microsoft store. So, when you try to install the extension, both Chrome and Firefox already check to see if your PC has Windows Defender and it directs you to the Windows Store if not.

So far, the tool is only available to users of the Insider Program, aimed at users who want to test the news of Microsoft. The company did not say when it plans to release a final version of the extension.
