The controversial director Woody Allen decided to sue Amazon for a breach of contract to produce four movies for Amazon Prime Video, the company's streaming service.
So far, the director's agreement with Amazon has resulted in the release of two films ( Giant Wheel and Cafe Society ) and the production of a third one ( Rainy Day in New York). The film, which featured names such as Selena Gomez, Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Jude Law, Diego Luna and Liev Shreiber, was scheduled for release in November 2018 but was in limbo since Allen's headlines with the #MeToo movement, started by Hollywood actresses to talk about rape and sexual harassment. And even with the production already finished, Amazon decided to cancel it now in February.
The suit accuses Amazon of trying to justify a breach of contract in an unproven allegation made 25 years ago against Allen, and was already widely known by Amazon and the general public when signing the contract, and that's why the case can not be considered as subject to breach of contract. Therefore, the director asks for compensation of $ 68 million from the company.
Since the beginning of the #MeToo movement in Hollywood, Woody Allen's name has returned to the headlines in a negative way, with actors remembering a case that happened to the director in 1992 when he was accused of raping Dylan Farrow, the director's adopted daughter with the then wife Mia Farrow, when the girl was only 7 years old. Although the investigation found no evidence of the prosecution, Allen did not help lessen the suspicions when he dropped Farrow to marry Soon-Yu Previn, another of the actress's adopted daughter who was almost 40 years younger than him.
