Cases of logins and passwords are not rare from the databases of websites and social networks. They are data of millions of users, and it is difficult for the internaut to search in all the lists to know if also was a victim of the latest attacks. To help ensure the security of your information online, Google has created an extension for Chrome that tells you if your login and password have been exposed on the internet.
The Password Checkup was released to celebrate the Safer Internet Day and is connected to a database of more than 4 billion credentials have been recorded as committed. When the user logs into a site, the extension may trigger an automatic warning that suggests that the password is changed.
"We developed Password Checkup in conjunction with Stanford University's encryption experts to ensure that Google does not capture your username or password and that the violation data remains secure against a wider exposure," the security team at the company, on the official blog. The extension also alerts for usernames and passwords that are considered unsafe.
The password verification extension is now available for Chrome . Google warns that as this is the first release, the company will continue to refine the tool in the coming months, "including improving site compatibility and username and password field detection."
