Pokémon GO Developer buys augmented reality company

Expanding its development capabilities in augmented reality, Niantic Labs, producer of Pokémon GO, announced on Thursday (01) the acquisition of startup Escher Reality.

According to the company, Escher focuses on developing technologies that exploit the "intersection" of the physical world with the digital world, with persistent experiences, multiplatform and multiplayer.

The addition of Escher AR technology is incredibly exciting for us at Niantic as it significantly accelerates our persistent and shared augmented reality work as part of the real-world Niantic application platform, " wrote John Hanke, director of Niantic,

There are still no details as to what the company plans to apply Escher's technologies to its products, but the company anticipates that it wants to expand augmented reality availability to multiple platforms and developers.
