Huawei decided to introduce users to the new version of the company's user interface EMUI 8.0, presented earlier this year and aimed at working with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The updated shell has been supported by a variety of functions based on machine learning technologies and artificial intelligence, which increase the usability of the device.
Always fast
"Born fast, it remains fast" - the slogan EMUI 8.0. Huawei used modern technology to ensure that the shell does not lose performance over time, which is a big problem for most Android smartphones. This is achieved through the use of the F2FS file system, flexible management of background applications and intelligent resource allocation.
Engine-based intelligence in the service of the user
To accelerate the launch of applications and reduce battery consumption, EMUI 8.0 examines and predicts user behavior by optimizing resource allocation. This allows you to quickly close unused applications, freeing up memory, and pre-launch those that may be required in those or other scenarios. Optimizing the thumbnail gallery greatly speeds up the loading of pictures when scrolling.
Artificial intelligence technologies and cooperation with Microsoft have significantly improved the capabilities of the Microsoft Translator application. Using the latest technology of neural computing from Microsoft and the capabilities of the Huawei neural module, EMUI 8.0 provides fast and correct text translation even in the absence of an Internet connection. Just take a picture of the text and get a translation. The application is able to translate in real time simultaneously from several languages.
One-handed operation
The management of the smartphone has become more convenient due to the navigation dock, which can be located anywhere on the screen. It supports four gestures: touch, svayp up, svayp to the right and hold for movement.
Another useful feature that uses machine learning techniques is the recognition of random screen touches. To avoid erroneous launching of applications, EMUI 8.0 recognizes 65 different situations, including touching the ear or cheek during a conversation, touching in your pocket, in your bag, in your hand, and others. The new algorithm calculates random touches with an accuracy of more than 95%.
Application Icons
New features have appeared in application icons. The continuous touch of the icon in EMUI 8.0 launches a shortcut menu that allows you to quickly launch certain functions of this program or create a special icon for frequently used options and fix it on the desktop. New features are supported: Google Play store, settings, gallery, calls, contacts, messages, camera, themes, clock, calendar, notes, voice recorder, downloads and other applications.
Recommendations
For the user to be able to quickly learn about all the possibilities of the shell and always optimally use the capabilities of the smartphone, EMUI 8.0 has a built-in "smart" recommendations system. In those situations where you can use new features, for example, when a user takes a few screenshots in a row, reads in the evening, sets the time for turning on and off the device, or launches an application that supports split-screen mode, the smartphone will tell you how to perform these actions faster and easier.
Simplified menu and private space
In the EMUI 8.0 shell, the main configuration menu has been reduced from 28 points more than twice. The remaining items moved to the submenu, which made the management of the smartphone clearer and easier.
Thanks to the advanced technology of thumbnail management, the gallery began to load much faster, even with fast scrolling, the appearance of empty icons instead of thumbnails of photographs is almost impossible. In addition, EMUI 8.0 for the first time implemented a basket for photos. Now all deleted images will be stored for 30 days with the possibility of recovery before they disappear completely. The trash can be cleaned forcibly to free up space in the memory.
Machine learning technologies used in EMUI 8.0 accelerate the launch of applications and optimize battery consumption. In the special section "Running" of the "Battery" menu, the user can set an individual script for each application, programming the autorun when turning on the phone, allowing work in the background or launching other applications on demand.
Some functions appeared on Huawei smartphones earlier, together with the EMUI 5.1 shell. Among them, one-touch screen division, 3D panoramas, portrait mode of photography and recognition of random touches. In EMUI 8.0, these functions have been refined. For example, you can now switch to split screen mode with just one touch. The smartphone itself recognizes situations when it is more convenient for a user to display two applications at once, and offers to do it. So, if you see a message in one of the instant messengers when watching a video, the screen prompts you to switch to split screen mode. To date, it is supported by Facebook, Whatsapp, Skype, Viber, IMO, Telegram Messenger, Yahoo Mail, Line, BIGO LIVE, WhatsCall, TrueCaller, Azar, BBM, MMS, Blued, and Twitter.
In EMUI 8.0 also appeared three-dimensional desktop wallpaper, changing the angle of the picture with a slow rotation of the smartphone. Updated and contact cards - they now have information about the profiles on LinkedIn.
Smart Camera
Dual cameras used in new Huawei smartphones are able to get more information about the depth of the scene and the shape of objects, which allows them to create better portraits with the bokeh effect. For example, the dual main camera Huawei P smart - one of the first smartphones based on EMUI 8.0 - allows you to adjust the background blur with 16-th intensity gradations, imitating the shooting of professional portrait lenses.
The front camera Huawei P smart with a resolution of 8 megapixels and aperture lens f / 2.0 supports portrait mode with the function "Decoration". Intelligent technology determines the type of face, automatically applying suitable filters to achieve the most attractive and natural result.
The flagship Huawei smartphones, built on the basis of the Kirin 970 processor with a neural computing module, are able to instantly recognize scenes and objects in the camera lens, offering real-time optimal shooting parameters. At the moment the flagship models under the control of EMUI 8.0 are able to recognize 13 different scenes and objects: portrait, beach, sky, sunrise and sunset, food, flowers, greens, snow "," Night landscape "," text "," performance on stage "," cats and dogs ".
Thanks to improved image processing algorithms, the filters in the photo can now be applied directly during the shooting, choosing the most appropriate thumbnail in the gallery. The cameras of the new smartphones also received a mode for creating 3D panoramas.
