During a press conference at CES 2018, Vivo presented a prototype of a smartphone ready for mass production with a fingerprint scanner built into the display. When creating the device, Vivo engineers used the newest fingerprint sensor Synaptics, announced last month.
"Through our efforts in consumer surveys and long-term investment in research and development, Vivo has become a pioneer in fingerprint scanning technology. First, we presented a prototype of our solution based on an ultrasonic sensor on MWC Shanghai 2017. After that, we were going to implement it in our future smartphones. Today's demonstration of a ready-to-release gadget with an optical fingerprint scanner in the display is a big step forward to give consumers this long-awaited and futuristic mobile experience. We are very pleased that we will be able to do this in the near future, "said Alex Fen, senior vice president of Vivo.
More details about the first Vivo smartphone with a fingerprint scanner in the display will be announced earlier this year.
