Microsoft's security patch "breaks" computers with AMD processors

Microsoft was forced to stop deploying a security update designed to close the vulnerabilities of Meltdown and Specter on computers running Windows. The cause was numerous complaints from users, whose devices after the installation of the patch began to hang on the welcome screen.

It is reported that the problem is observed only on computers with AMD processors. Moreover, the system hangs on a variety of chip manufacturers. Therefore, Microsoft announced the termination of the distribution of the patch before clarifying the circumstances.

"In order to protect AMD customers from this problem, Microsoft suspends the distribution of the following updates to the Windows operating system on devices with AMD processors," said a Microsoft representative.

The corporation conducted an investigation and concluded that the cause of the problem lies in the documentation of AMD:

"After the investigation, Microsoft determined that some AMD chipsets do not comply with the documentation previously provided to us for developing a patch to protect the Windows operating system from the vulnerabilities Specter and Meltdown," explained Microsoft.

The company promises to release a revised update in the near future.
