Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition release date finally announced

After months of waiting, we finally know when Final Fantasy 15 will launch on PC. Today Square Enix announced the release date for Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition, detailing all of the extra content that will come with this version as well. The best news is that Final Fantasy 15 will arrive on PC a lot sooner than many of us were probably expecting.

Square Enix revealed a March 6, 2018, release date for Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition today, delivering a trailer that shows off some of the enhancements we can expect. We’ll see support for 4K textures and Dolby Atmos sound, and those who are using an NVIDIA card will find compatibility with GameWorks features like TurfVision and Hairworks. Here are the minimum, recommended, and 4K HDR specs you’ll need in order to run the game on Windows:

Modder made Fallout 4 really hardcore

Minimum Specifications:

OS: Windows 7 SP1/Windows 8.1/Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 (3.3GHz or above) or AMD FX-6100 (3.3GHz or above)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750/1050 or AMD Radeon R9 280
RAM: 8GB
Display resolution: 720p
Free Space: Over 100GB

Recommended Specifications:

OS: Windows 7 SP1/Windows 8.1/Windows 10 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 (3.4GHz or above) or AMD FX-8350 (4.0GHz or above)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 480
RAM: 16GB
Display Resolution: 1080p
Free Space: Over 100GB

4K HDR Specifications:

OS: Windows 10 64-bit Fall Creators Update
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700 (3.6GHz or above) or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X (3.6GHz or above)
CPU: NVIDIA GeForce 1080 Ti
RAM: 16GB
Display Resolution: 2160p
Free Space: Over 155GB

As you can see, even the recommended specification requires some fairly recent hardware, so if you’ve been itching for Final Fantasy 15 on PC, some upgrades may be in order. The 4K HDR specification requires top-of-the-line hardware (obviously), so this will be the domain of those who already have face-melting rig set up and ready to go.

Square Enix also announced Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition today, which will be launching alongside the Windows Edition on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Aside from the visual enhancements that will be exclusive to the Windows Edition, it seems that both of these are identical in terms of content. You’ll get the base game and all of the season pass content released thus far, which includes the episodes centred around Noctis’s travelling companions and the Comrades multiplayer expansion.

Square Enix says that both versions will also feature an expanded map for the Insomnia City Ruins, which offers new side quests and enemies, and a Royal Vessel boat that allows you to fish in the area between Cape Caem and Altissia. Finally, both versions will let you jump into a first-person camera to experience the game from the perspective of Noctis.

While both the Windows Edition and the Royal Edition will cost $49.99, Square Enix will be offering the new downloadable content in the Royal Edition to those who already own the base game on Xbox One and PS4 for $19.99. Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition will be available through Steam, Windows Store, and Origin, with each version offering pre-order bonuses that are detailed here.
