Top 7 Tips to Secure Your Online Data

There's no doubt that the internet has changed our lives in countless positive ways, but it's not an unmixed blessing. Since your privacy has been lost, it may leave you at risk for shady individuals, companies and security agencies. If you don't know this, know it now, there is no such thing as complete security. No matter who you are or where you are in the world, there are some things you can do - many of which are simple - to protect yourself in this tumultuous time. Today we will be sharing some tips with you to secure your online data.

1. Encrypting Data:

Encrypting Data

Encryption used to be the sole territory of mathematicians and geeks, but a lot has changed in the recent years. In particular, various tools have been made available this has taken the rocket science out of encrypting (and decrypting) email and files.  To secure your online data, it's essential to keep it encrypted. To do that either on PC or mobile, you may find various programs.

2. Securing Your Device:

Your Smartphone is your terminal endpoint. You carry it everywhere, and it holds most of your online personal secrets and sensitive information. Modern Android devices usually come with high-security features.

3. Setting a Stronger Password:

You must use a secure, unique alphanumeric password that is at least in the double-digits of characters for each account you have. While setting your passwords, try creating complex, long passwords consisting of one-sentence summaries of strange life events or nonsensical phrases and add numbers and special characters. Once you set strong and unique passwords for each account, it's not necessary to change them often. It's suggested not to use the same password across multiple sites.

4. Activating The "Two Factor Authentication":

To protect your valuable data only by creating strong passwords are for sure not enough. If a site offers additional security features, like two-factor authentication or secondary, enable them. When logging your login account, you will receive a text message with a one-time security code that you must enter before you can log in.

5. Enabling Automatic Software Updates:

To ensure that you're downloading the latest security updates from operating systems. Many programs will automatically connect and update to defend against unknown and known risks. Turning on the automatic updates can keep you more secure.

6.Securing Your Wireless Network:

It's always advised to secure your wireless network with a strong password. This prevents unauthorized individuals within proximity to access your wireless network. Even if they're simply attempting to get free Wi-Fi access, you don't want to involuntarily share private information with other people who are using your network without your permission. If you have a Wi-Fi network for your workplace, make sure it is secure by all mean, encrypted, and hidden. To hide your Wi-Fi network, set up your wireless access router or point, so it does not broadcast the name, known as the Service Set Identifier (SSID)

7. Backing up your data:
One of the most primary, yet often overlooked, data protection tips is backing up your online data. This creates a duplicate copy of your data so that if a device is compromised or stolen, you don't also lose your essential information. It's best to create a backup on a different phone, such as an external SD/hard drive, so that you can easily recover your information when the original device becomes compromised. In MIUI you will find the Backup option under Settings >> Additional Settings >> Backup & reset

I hope this guide we have given above will help you secure your online data.
