Before the Chevrolet Bolt series electric hatchbacks leave the assembly line at the end of this year, their annual circulation will reach 70,000 units, significantly covering the production volumes of all more modern "relatives" on the Ultium platform. In 2024, the "veteran market" will have to give way to electric pickups on the assembly line of the Michigan enterprise, but GM CEO Mary Barra has made it clear that the company is ready to revive this model at a new technological level.
At least, this becomes clear from her statements during a recent interview. The CEO of the corporation as a whole believes it is important to use the attachment of consumers to certain brands, as happened with Equinox. In the electric version, this crossover, according to her, should appeal to those who now drive the gasoline model of the same name, and generally know what to expect from a car with the same name.
The Bolt brand, according to the head of GM, has earned a good reputation and gained loyal fans. Only the need to transfer other models to the more cost-effective Ultium platform forced the company to discontinue Bolt electric vehicles, which belonged to the second generation of GM electric vehicles. According to Barra, the Bolt continues to be an important model in GM's range of offerings. She refused to say anything more detailed about her future fate, citing trade secrets covering future plans.
From all this, we can conclude that GM at least does not exclude the possibility of reviving the Bolt model at a new technological level. Since we can judge the preservation of positioning using the example of Equinox, the return of Bolt will certainly take place in the segment of affordable electric vehicles. The Ultium platform, which allows you to create third-generation electric vehicles, saves up to 40% only on traction batteries, so the revived Bolt can both maintain an attractive price tag and get an increased power reserve, since the previous model could satisfy only the most undemanding buyers today, driving no more than 414 km on a conditional EPA cycle without recharging.
