Backup copies, version control, and synchronization are some of the benefits obtained by the user who wants to access their documents, photos, videos and software through computers and mobile devices, and the best: Dropbox is free. The service initially offers 2 GB of space for your files, but you can get more space by inviting your friends to the service or subscribing to monthly plans of up to 100 GB.
HOW IT WORKS
To optimize your Internet bandwidth usage and file sync time, when a change is detected, only the changed parts of the files are transmitted. However, if the user feels that the service is consuming all of their Internet bandwidth, they can manually set limits.
Since files are immediately transferred to all configured computers, after synchronizing with Dropbox servers, they are available even without an internet connection. This is possible as the documents are stored on your PC's hard drive. Such behavior does not occur for mobile devices due to storage limitations. For these devices, you need to bookmark the files you want to access without an Internet connection.
DROPBOX FOR ANDROID AND IOS
In the new version for Android and iOS, it is no longer necessary to open the application for the file to be saved in the cloud, now all you have to do is select the option to share the file itself and direct it to Dropbox. Also, tool for Android features an SD card feature that can be used without an internet connection. Android L is also supported.
With mobile apps, you can keep your files at hand, wherever you are. However, you don't need to tell Dropbox which files you want to have available offline. To do so, just click on the “Favorite” option for each of the documents you want.
With the tool, there is the availability to edit your files on your cell phone or tablet. All you need is an editor program for your document. Download, edit and save. Dropbox takes care of pushing your changes to the cloud and syncing them across all of your configured computers and mobile devices. Also, if the file belongs to a shared folder, your friends receive the changes instantly.
When the user captures photos or videos with his device, the program sends them as soon as possible to his Internet account. In addition to the simplified sharing of your files, this functionality offers security so that you don't lose your photos when your gadget disappears or a friend asks you to delete a photo and it works as a backup of all files.
HOW TO SHARE FILES
The software now allows the user to take screenshots of their computer screen and share them with just one click. Despite being an extremely simple function, he still couldn't do that and this update had been awaited for a long time. This function is available for both Windows and Mac users. However, for Apple users, the function is more complete. When saving a screenshot, the service also sends the saved photo straight to the iPhoto application .
Shared folders allow people to work together on documents and projects. There is the possibility to share a folder with any number of users of the service. But it's important to point out that when sharing a folder, the size is discounted on all accounts that share it.
With this application, the user does not need to send emails with the files and control several different versions of his documents. All changes made are disseminated the moment they are saved to all partners, keeping only the most up-to-date version of the file in their folder.
With the Facebook integration , you don't need to know the email your friends used to sign up for Dropbox. Just connect your Facebook account and invite your social network friends to share a folder. With Twitter , you can invite your followers to use the program and gain more space if they accept the invitation. In any case, when connecting your Twitter or Facebook account, the user gains extra space in the software.
However, sharing a folder is not the only way to send your files from the app to contacts. If you just want them to receive your files, just send them a link to access your document. Your friends can then download your data from their browser. Currently, even files that are not in the public folder can generate links.
Photo sharing is also made easy. In the new versions, when the user connects a camera or cell phone to his PC, the application automatically sends the images and videos to his account, in the “Camera Uploads” folder. In addition to sending photographs, the system creates photo albums, with all that the user adds to the “Photos” folder. Each subfolder is a new album and can be shared using the “Copy the public gallery link” option.
SECURE APPLICATION
With all these features that make many personal files synchronized and shared in the cloud, many may think that the service is insecure. However, according to the company that provides the service, all files are transmitted with a secure connection, using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) standard, widely used on the Internet for information security.
On servers, documents are stored with the encryption standard adopted by the US Ministry of Defense, the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with a 256-bit key. In addition to protections against unauthorized access to your data, the software offers security against user confusion and forgetfulness.
For this, all versions of your files are kept for one month, even those that are deleted. Thus, users know when a file has been changed or deleted, and can even go back to previous versions. After all these features and facilities, don't waste time, download Dropbox and optimize your workflow!
OUR OPINION
The use of cloud file storage services is increasingly common among Internet users, and Dropbox is one of the most popular services in this market. This tool's software, both for desktops and mobile devices, is very suitable for users to have control over their accounts on the website's servers.
The program has a downside compared to most of its competitors: the free storage space it offers users is only 2 GB (which can reach 18 GB depending on the number of referrals from friends that the person makes ). If the user chooses to subscribe to a plan paying a monthly fee, then yes, there is plenty of space for your files, such as up to 100 GB.
Box Drive: store files in the cloud in sync with other platforms
On Windows, Linux or Mac, the Dropbox program, when installed, creates a kind of folder on your computer. After that, when you want to upload a document to your service account, just drag and drop it into the directory, as if you were moving it to a normal folder on your PC. There are no difficulties, the interface is as simple and intuitive as possible and this gives the software many positive points.
The transfer of files, however, is not the fastest. Small files can be uploaded to the server in a few seconds. But photos, for example, if they have more than 2 Mb, take a little while to be sent. In any case, cloud storage, whether in Dropbox or other software, is an excellent option for backing up everything important that the user has on their computer.
On mobile devices, the application has the same functionality, however the way it works is a little different. Its main attractions are the fact that it can automatically send photos from your smartphone. And, of course, anywhere access to all your files uploaded from other machines.
PROS
- very easy to use
- Drag and paste feature
- Compatibility with multiple platforms
