iPhone 14 Plus was originally called iPhone 14 Max

Apple originally planned to call its new budget 6.7-inch smartphone "iPhone 14 Max", but changed its mind at the last minute, so we got the iPhone 14 Plus instead.

The Danish blog iCreate.nl  published a support document from the Apple website with instructions on how to determine the iPhone model. If you open the site on your computer and scroll down to the iPhone 14 Plus section, then right-click on the image and choose Save As, you'll see that the image is called "iPhone-14-max-colors.jpg".

This means that Apple originally planned to call its budget 6.7-inch smartphone "iPhone 14 Max" rather than "iPhone 14 Plus". Apple has painted itself into a corner with the iPhone lineup naming system.

It all started with the iPhone 3GS, when everyone started wondering what the “S” in the name of the smartphone means. Smartphones with the letter "S" in the name came out a year later (iPhone 4s, iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s). However, in 2017, Apple released the iPhone 8 when everyone was expecting the iPhone 7s. In addition, there were models with "Max" and "Plus" in the name, which confused everyone even more. Not all users understand the meaning of all these names.

Many barely understand the difference between regular iPhone models and "Pro" models. For some time now, Apple has been rather chaotic in naming new iPhone models.

The question still remains: is Apple ready to end this madness and give more memorable names to different iPhone models?

iPhone design changes every three years. It started with the iPhone 6 in 2012. The iPhone 14 line has retained the basic design of the previous two iPhone generations.

Apart from a new 48MP camera and a dynamic island on the screen, the iPhone 14 has not received such changes, for which it is worth replacing the previous generation smartphone. If you have an iPhone 12, you can think about buying a new smartphone.
