The first president in the history of Romania
The first to hold this position was Nicolae Ceausescu, a Romanian politician who was General Secretary of the Communist Party from 1965 to 1989, and was president from 1967 to 1989.
The revolution that overthrew him was part of a series of revolutions in Eastern Europe at the time to overthrow all forms of communism in the region.

Emil Constantinescu ran for office in 1996 for the second time and, unlike the first attempt, managed to defeat his opponent Ion Iliescu.
Emile belongs to the Christian Democratic National Peasant Party, and he served as President from November 29, 1996 to December 20, 2000, approximately 4 years and 21 days.
