Earlier this year, Dropbox beta tested the Mac client on Apple Silicon processors. The cloud storage service has announced that it now finally supports all Mac M1s.
Dropbox tweeted to announce support for the Mac M1. Native support is reported to bring many benefits, such as increased performance and efficiency, so you can enjoy a smooth experience on your Mac. You don't need to redownload or reinstall Dropbox. The updated version will appear automatically.
The company's website explained how you can check if you're using the native version of the app or not:
Step 1: Press Command + Space to open Spotlight search. In the search, enter "System Monitoring".
Step 2: A dropdown menu should appear. In it, select "System Monitoring".
Step 3: Select the "CPU" tab at the top of the window, in the "Process Name" column, find Dropbox and check the value of the "Type" column. If it says "Apple", then you are using the native version of the client for Mac M1.
With Dropbox's move to native Mac M1 support, the client will no longer use the Rosetta emulator. Using the emulator was inefficient and was causing the MacBook's battery to drain.
