Ukraine warns of massive cyberattacks promoted by Belarus

The Computer Emergency Response Team of the Government of Ukraine (CERT-UA) has warned that in recent days "massive" computer attacks have been detected from Belarus towards private accounts of the Ukrainian military.

These attacks would have been carried out through the method known as 'phishing', a type of cyber attack that seeks to obtain private user data by falsifying web pages that the receiver of the scam usually knows.

Identified the attacker

Thus, the Ukrainian authorities have denounced the theft of information from some soldiers through this computer crime, which, they say, comes from the UNC1151 group based in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, and whose staff is made up of alleged officials from the Ministry of Defense of that country.

Some websites of the Ukrainian authorities, such as the Ministry of Defense or the Armed Forces, have been compromised in recent days after suffering computer attacks. Both Kiev and the US government directly pointed to Moscow as being behind these attacks.
