Powerful solar flare hit NASA lenses

On January 20, a powerful flare occurred on the Sun. It was captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. The US space agency has shared footage of the release of a large amount of energy from our star.

The recorded solar flare was of medium level. She was assigned the classification M5.5. This indicator indicates the strength of the cosmic phenomenon and its impact on the Earth. Solar flares release powerful electromagnetic radiation that travels through the solar system at the speed of light. It can directly affect radio waves, electronics and other terrestrial technologies.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) rated it as a Level 2 outbreak on its scale. This means that such activity is capable of causing a temporary shutdown of radio communications on the side of the Earth illuminated by the Sun. Electromagnetic radiation can also distort low frequency navigation signals.
