MediaTek Announces Timeline for First Wi-Fi 7 Devices

MediaTek was one of the first to officially announce the work on the new Wi-Fi 7 wireless data transmission standard, also known as IEEE 802.11be. The largest manufacturer of mobile chips also announced when to expect the first devices with support for this technology.

MediaTek said it has hosted a demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 technology for key customers and industry representatives. The company's statement did not provide any technical details. It was only said that MediaTek has been involved in the development of the Wi-Fi 7 standard from the very beginning and intends to be one of the first to start implementing it. It is reported that the first Wi-Fi 7-enabled products will hit the market as early as 2023.

MediaTek representatives claim that with the advent of Wi-Fi 7, wireless networks will finally be able to become a full-fledged alternative to a wired / Ethernet connection due to ultra-high bandwidth. The new technology will become the basis for virtual and augmented reality applications, cloud gaming and 8K streaming.

The company notes that the key improvements in Wi-Fi 7 compared to the previous generation standards will be increased channel width, quadrature modulation (QAM), multi-channel synchronization (MLO) and others. In addition, the estimated maximum data transfer rate will be 30 Gb / s - three times faster than Wi-Fi 6.
