Rivian electric vehicles with maximum range to begin shipping in 2023

Back in the fall, the management of the Rivian company admitted that it will take the remaining time until the end of 2023 to service the orders already accepted for the supply of electric vehicles. By mid-December, pre-orders had grown to 71,000 cars, and now Rivian is announcing that maximum range versions as well as electric vehicles with simpler trims will not begin shipping until 2023 at the earliest.

This week, as noted by Electrek , Rivian CEO and founder RJ Scaringe made a statement to the company's customers who have already placed orders for R1T pickups and R1S crossovers. According to him, out of 71 thousand orders received by the company for the supply of electric vehicles in the United States and Canada, the share of versions with the maximum capacity of the traction battery accounted for no more than 20%. The vast majority of cars were ordered with a base battery that provides a range of about 502 km according to the EPA cycle, as well as in the more expensive Adventure Package. For example, it differs from the base one in more expensive finishing materials and an advanced acoustic system, as well as ventilation of the seats in both rows in addition to heating them.

Deciding to optimize its production program for next year, Rivian will simply focus on the Adventure Package with a Large Pack base battery. Cars with a battery of increased capacity Max Pack, which will receive a range of about 640 km, will be offered to customers only from 2023. At the same time, cars with a simpler Explore Package finish will begin to roll off the assembly line.

So far, the assembly of Rivian electric vehicles is carried out at the only plant in the state of Illinois, but construction of the second plant in the state of Georgia will begin next summer. It will start serial production of cars only in 2024; the enterprise will be able to produce up to 400 thousand electric vehicles annually. Rivian expects to be able to produce up to one million cars annually by the end of the decade. The revelations of the head of Rivian caused the company's shares to decline by almost four percent.
