Mobile Core i5-1250P is roughly equal to desktop AMD Ryzen 5800X in Geekbench single-core test

The mobile power-efficient Alder Lake-P processors deliver impressive performance, according to the latest published Geekbench 5 synthetic benchmark test. In a single-core test, the upcoming Core i5-1250P model performs almost the same as the desktop AMD Ryzen 5800X.

Intel Alder Lake mobiles will be able to offer up to 14 physical cores: up to six high-performance P-cores and up to eight energy-efficient E-cores. The chips will be divided into two main subcategories. Alder Lake-H models with higher TDP and operating frequencies, such as the Core i7-12700H , will target high-performance gaming laptops. Alder Lake-P models with lower TDP rates, frequencies and the number of cores, like the same Core i5-1250P, will be designed for thin and energy efficient laptop models.

The Core i5-1250P processor received 12 cores with support for 16 threads and 18 MB of L3 cache. That is, it uses four P-cores and eight E-cores, and according to Geekbench 5, this chip is called low-performance. In the single-core test, the Core i5-1250P scored 1611 points, and in the multi-core test, 8789 points.

In comparison, the desktop Ryzen 7 5800X scores 1,672 points in the same single-core test, which is only 6.8% higher than the Intel chip. The difference is not big enough to call it significant. However, in the multi-core test, the Core i5-1250P is noticeably inferior to the Ryzen processor, which scores 10,347 points. But still these are “different weight categories”.

The single-core performance of the Core i5-1250P is quite impressive, especially considering that this processor is likely to be used in regular laptops for everyday tasks, and not inside professional workstations. Equally interesting, the Intel chip has a significantly lower base clock of 2.10 GHz compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X, which has a 3.8 GHz base clock. Unfortunately, Geekbench does not indicate the exact maximum frequency of the Core i5-1250P. It can be assumed that it is at 4.4 GHz.
