It became known that several US states, led by Texas, have filed an updated lawsuit against Google, owned by Alphabet. In it, the tech giant is accused of violating antitrust laws in the online advertising market to strengthen its already dominant position in this segment.
The updated lawsuit is another step towards regulators to tighten control over the activities of Google. According to the prosecution, the IT giant is using its dominant position and coercive tactics to strengthen its position in the online advertising market and limit competition in this segment.
The lawsuit also mentions the secret Project Bernanke program, which was implemented by Google in 2013. As part of this program, the company used bidding data for online ad placement to leverage its advertising and attract more customers. According to the prosecution, unfair competition has contributed to Google's dominance in the online advertising segment. Google officials and the Texas Attorney General's office have refrained from commenting on the matter.
Note that several lawsuits, similar in nature, were filed against Google. One of the antitrust lawsuits was filed by the US Department of Justice, which is conducting its own antitrust investigation against the tech giant. This investigation is expected to culminate in one of the largest antitrust cases in recent years. It is assumed that the Ministry of Justice will complete the investigation by the end of this year, after which the results of the work done will be submitted to the court and the consideration of the case will continue.
