Microsoft unveils Loop, a hybrid app with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams capabilities

Microsoft has announced a new Loop app that will be available as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription and will combine the capabilities of a variety of office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. This product combines a powerful and flexible work path with portable components that move and sync with each other to make collaboration easier and more productive.

Microsoft Loop consists of three main elements: Loop components, Loop pages, and Loop workspaces.

Loop components . Components are separate pieces of content that are available simultaneously in multiple applications and can be updated in real time. Such a fragment, for example, can be notes in a calendar entry, which are also available for insertion into Outlook with subsequent editing in a letter. Various elements such as tables, lists, etc. can act as Loop components. Editing of such elements takes place in the Office cloud applications, thereby ensuring that all users are working with the current version of the file. These elements are also available in the main Loop menu, where the user can see the entire list of available components and pages, as well as the users who are working on editing them.

.

Loop Pages . Pages are separate canvases that can be used to organize and collaborate with Loop components throughout the process. Inserting and publishing components that were created outside of the Loop space is supported. However, some of the elements can be edited without using Loop, but using other applications.

Loop workspaces . Workspaces provide a shared space that users can use to bring together all the tools they need to complete their tasks. It supports tracking the progress of tasks, adding notes, viewing tasks that certain users are working on, etc.

.

Individual Loop items are reportedly rolling out to Teams, Office, and OneNote this month. As for the standalone Loop application, it will be launched later.
