A malfunction has been identified in the soft landing system of the Luna-25 station

In one of the instruments, which is supposed to ensure a soft landing of the automatic station "Luna-25" on the natural satellite of our planet, a malfunction was found.

According to TASS, referring to information received from the state corporation "Roscosmos", we are talking about a Doppler speed and range meter (DISD-LR). During the tests carried out, this device was unable to show correct data.

At present, the specialists of JSC NPO Lavochkina (part of Roscosmos) and JSC Concern Vega (the manufacturer of the device) are checking the performance of the product at a low-altitude stand. It is noted that the possibility of manufacturing a new device to replace the existing one is not currently being considered.

“ Taking into account the comments received, the investigation of the causes of the malfunction and their elimination, the completion of the incoming control is scheduled for November 22, 2021, ” said Roscosmos.

The Luna-25 station, we recall, is intended to study the surface of the Earth's natural satellite in the circumpolar region, as well as to test the soft landing technology.

The launch was planned to be performed in October of this year, but then the start was postponed to 2022 due to the need for additional checks.
