Windows 11 has caused controversy in the expert community

This week Microsoft released the first stable version of its new Windows software platform 11. This means that owners of compatible computers will soon be asked to update the operating system, but is it worth doing this, because the developers have postponed the launch of key functions, and the general state of the platform does not dispose to immediate installation.

As a rule, the issue of installing functional updates and security fixes does not cause difficulties for users, since such patches bring innovations and make the platform more stable. In the case of Windows 10 it is not so easy to refuse to install mandatory updates, but Windows 11 is distributed according to a different principle. Microsoft is giving users more time by promising to continue supporting Windows 10 until 2025. This means that Windows users 10 will have a few more years before the OS stops receiving new features and important updates.

In favor of delaying the Windows installation 11 and continuing to use Windows 10 tell several facts. First of all, the updated user interface should be noted. Windows 10 has the same File Explorer, Taskbar, Start Menu, and other elements, but includes new labels, icons, and navigation. The user will find it difficult to work with the same efficiency as in Windows 11 until he masters all the subtleties and nuances of the new OS. This also matters when using other familiar tools like File Explorer. Even for simple tasks like renaming files or navigating directories, you will have to use the appropriate icons, which will take time to remember.

Another question concerns Windows functionality 11. Without a doubt, the OS can be used in its current form, but in the process of interacting with it you will have to regularly face minor but annoying problems. For example, the taskbar and Start menu are less functional than their Windows counterparts 10. This dynamically centers the taskbar, which causes the Start menu to slide to the left as you open applications. Users cannot resize or move the taskbar. Pinning applications to the taskbar is supported, but in the Start menu they are displayed in the All Applications section, from where they can already be dragged to the main page of the Start menu. And such little things can be enough to hinder fruitful work with the OS.

In terms of new features, not everything is clear either. For example, the DirectStorage tool may be one of the main advantages of Window 11 for gamers, and the ability to run Android applications right on the desktop will surely interest an even larger audience. However, both of these features will not be available in the first version of Windows 11, which began distribution this week.

Also important understand that the new OS contains new code, and this may mean the appearance of all sorts of failures in the process of interacting with the platform. It is safe to assume that Windows users 11 will find a lot of bugs that will not be a pleasant surprise.

At the same time, refusal to install Windows 11 currently does not mean refusal of updates. Windows 05 will continue to be supported for several years, and Microsoft will continue to work on Windows 11. At some time, a tipping point will come, key features will become available to users, and the platform as a whole will become more stable. Obviously, after that, Microsoft will make more efforts to nudge users to switch to Windows 10. However, before that moment, for many users, refusing to update may be a more correct solution.
