It’s no secret that Samsung has joined forces with AMD to create a new processor. Exynos 690 will be the first component out of this collaboration, with its market debut scheduled for the beginning of next year.
It will be, precisely, through this new processor that Samsung will take a step forward in the quality of games on smartphones. Strictly speaking, this will be the first platform to migrate ray tracing technology to the mobile world.
Exynos promises to bring ray tracing to smartphones
The ray tracing technology is increasingly popular in the gaming market. It is already a common sight on high-end graphics cards and is also present on new generation consoles – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
With this technology, shadows are processed in a different way. The result is shadows with greater detail and precision, giving an above-average sense of reality to games that make use of ray tracing.
Trata- is a very complex and demanding technology, therefore, it requires above-average processing hardware. But thanks to the project involving Samsung and AMD; we’re about to see the arrival of ray tracing also on smartphones.
This will be possible thanks to the RDNA 2 architecture developed by AMD for its cards graphics for computers. Considering that the upcoming Exynos 2200 will also benefit from the same architecture, the conditions are right for a new era of gaming on mobile devices.
In addition, Samsung promises the implementation of the Variable Rate Shading technology. This will provide a higher quality rendering of the objects, something that will easily distinguish them from the methods currently used.
It should be remembered that the first benchmark tests performed on Exynos 2200 actually show a significant evolution vis-à-vis their competitors. This means that the new SoC seems to have all the conditions to start a new era in the market in which it is positioned.
The Exynos 690 should make its debut on the Samsung Galaxy S, whose presentation is expected for next January. Then, we will have a more accurate perspective of what this new SoC has to offer to the market.
