Pine64 has introduced a new proprietary gadget running Linux - the PinePhone Pro smartphone. The model is interesting for its advanced technical characteristics by the standards of the brand and wide possibilities for manually disabling communication modules to preserve the confidentiality of its data.


The device is built on the basis of the Rockchip RK3399S mobile platform - a six-core processor with a clock frequency of 1.5 GHz works in conjunction with 4 GB of dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM. The volume of the eMMC-drive of the device is 128 GB, the ability to install microSD is supported. PinePhone Pro is equipped with a 6-inch IPS-display with a resolution of 1440x720 pixels and protective glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with oleophobic coating.



The manufacturer paid special attention to privacy issues. With the help of hardware switches, the user can “turn off” the microphone, cameras, radio module, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and even the jack for wired headphones. The smartphone runs Manjaro Linux with the KDE Plasma Mobile desktop environment. A 3000 mAh battery with support for 15-watt fast charging technology is responsible for the autonomy of the device.

The resolution of the main camera of the device is 13 megapixels, the front one is 5 megapixels. In addition to the USB Type-C port, the PinePhone Pro has a universal pogo connector for connecting various peripherals. Dimensions of new items are 160.8 x 76.6 x 11.1 mm, weight - 215 grams. The gadget will go on sale in early 2022 at a price of $ 399.
