Pete Lau, founder and CEO of OnePlus, revealed that the company would not release a Model T this year. However, such a statement may be limited to global models only, as the belief that the OnePlus 9RT will exist grows.
Who corroborates this information is the highly regarded leaker Evan Blass. Through his Twitter account, he reveals some renders of the upcoming smartphone of the Chinese brand, the OnePlus 9RT.
This is the look of the OnePlus 9RT
When looking at the images shared by Even Blass, we can’t help noticing the similarities with the OnePlus 9. In fact, the OnePlus 9RT will work of a mix between the two models presented at the beginning of the year.
The new model will have a camera with an aesthetic much closer to the OnePlus 9 Pro. the entry model released in March.
We cannot see the front of the OnePlus 9RT in these images. However, the guess is that the brand will opt for a flat screen, as in the OnePlus 9, to save production costs.
After all, the market positioning of the OnePlus 9RT is confusing. It is intended to be slightly superior to the OnePlus 9R, but not superior to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro sold globally.
OnePlus 9RT may be exclusive to India
Taking what OnePlus has done with the OnePlus 9R, it is plausible to assume that the 9RT has limited availability. Strictly speaking, the new Android device may again be targeted only to the Indian market.
For global markets, namely Europe, users will continue to be able to opt for a OnePlus 9 or 9 Pro. If this is true, when Pete Lau denied the launch of a Model T, he could only be referring to global markets.
OnePlus hasn’t announced any events yet. Therefore, it is still not certain that the OnePlus 9RT actually exists, and it may just be an unfinished project for the brand.
