Microsoft confirms closure of LinkedIn in China after suspension of new registrations
It was Microsoft itself that advanced with confirmation that you will terminate your local LinkedIn service in China. According to a publication by Mohak Shroff, vice president of the professional network, this decision was made due to the “significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements” existing in that country.
Earlier this year, the professional network had already suspended registrations of new users in China. At the time, this measure was justified by Microsoft as a way to comply with Chinese compliance requirements and legislation. More details have not been provided.
New InJobs platform will replace LinkedIn at the end of 2014
But this does not mean that Microsoft will abandon Chinese users. To make up for the absence of LinkedIn in that country, the company will launch a new platform at the end of this year.
The new platform will be called InJobs and will be a portal to list job vacancies employment and candidacies. According to Microsoft officials, this platform will not include a social feed or permission to share publications or articles, since it is exactly in these two points that the difficulties can be located.
LinkedIn has been available in China since 2014 and has never been part of the group of western social networks blocked by the Chinese government, in an action known as The Great Firewall. In turn, Microsoft has been present in China since 1992, and its software is used by Chinese authorities and its search engine Bing is still active in that country.
