Apple continues to refuse the protocol implementation RCS (

Rich Communications Service) which would considerably improve the dynamics and content of SMS messages exchanged between smartphones Android and phones iOS, the iPhone of Cupertino.

After having successfully implemented the RCS standard in Android messages, Google continues to encourage the adoption of this communications standard. To that end, we now see a Google executive reaching out to the Cupertino giant and its iOS phones.

First, we can look at the RCS standard as the future of SMS messaging. The differences between both patterns were explained here in a previous occasion and in a dedicated article on Androidvillazs. This adoption is gradual, but consistent in the world.

By the way, it should be noted that the RCS standard is currently present in most Android smartphones, but there remains, however, an obstacle. The Cupertino giant refuses to adhere to this new protocol on its iOS phones, the Apple iPhone.

Note that this standard is currently supported by many giants. industry, in addition to the operators themselves in several countries such as the United States of America. As such, there are few excuses left to support Apple’s position.

Apple continues to rely primarily on the iMessage service

The appeal has now been launched by executive Hiroshi Lockheimer, one of the top Android patents within Google after a well-known golfer was the only one not to use the iMessage service by not using an iPhone. However, between Android devices, compatible with RCS and iOS devices, without this compatibility, there is content that ends up lost between platforms.

The problem, by the way, is recognized by the Cupertino giant , on the support page. By the way, Apple points out “If you’re not using iMessage, you can use SMS/MMS. These messages are messages and photos you send to other mobile phones or another iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. SMS/MMS messages are not encrypted and appear in green text balloons on the device.”

Differences in SMS content presentation between Android and iOS

The adoption by Apple of the RCS would represent a magnanimous step towards the harmonization of communications between the two operating systems. So far, we continue to have different user experiences depending on the platform used.

The problem does not apply, however, if they use third-party services such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal, for example. Finally, for now there are no predictions or indications that point to a new attitude of Apple towards the RCS.

We are still waiting for a more harmonious future between both systems.
