Facebook again accused of insufficient moderation of problematic content

Facebook was again accused of putting profit above the public interest. This was stated by a former employee of Facebook's "social integrity team", stressing that for the company, making profit is more important than combating the incitement to hatred and misinformation within its social network.

Facebook again accused of insufficient moderation of problematic content

An unnamed source reportedly testified under oath before the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Among other things, he noted the existing differences between Facebook's public statements and the way decisions are made within the company. The whistleblower said social networking giant Internet.org, a project to provide free access to some Internet resources to residents of least developed countries, was viewed internally as a means of obtaining data on untapped markets and a fulcrum for Facebook's further business development.

“It would create a dangerous precedent for hanging the whole story on one source, making a wide range of claims without any obvious evidence to back them up. This story is based on a false premise. Yes, we do business and make a profit, but the idea that we do it at the expense of the safety or well-being of people does not allow us to understand what our own commercial interests are, ”a Facebook spokesman commented on the issue. Despite this statement, the testimony of the whistleblower is largely consistent with the statements of former Facebook employee Frances Haugen (Frances Haugen), who, among other things, also accused the company of making profit more important for it than dealing with problematic content.
