Garry's Mod has sold over 20 million copies

Gamers familiar with the work of Valve have probably heard of Garry's Mod - a "sandbox" in which anyone can find entertainment to their liking, as long as it does not require tearing away from the monitor. According to the developers, more than 20 million people have used the original way to kill time: that is how many people have acquired their creation in 15 years from the date of release.

As the name suggests, Garry's Mod was originally just a modification of the Source engine by Harry Newman. In 2006, it was released on Steam as a standalone game, which soon became overgrown with many user modes in a variety of formats. Some particularly inventive individuals have even started using the program to create witty (and not so witty) YouTube videos. Ten years after its premiere, the title reached the 10 million mark. He managed to get to twenty even faster.

Recall that the authors of Garry's Mod are engaged in a kind of sequel to their greatest brainchild. The project, known as s & box, is being developed on the Source 2 engine. Initially, the Facepunch studio planned to use Unreal Engine 4, but the release of Half-Life: Alyx convinced its employees.
