All to comply with the guidelines of the revision of the EU directive that wants to ensure that electronic devices, on the European market, work with radio frequencies meet all the requirements to protect the health and ensure safety of European citizens.

Also with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint related to the disposal of chargers, the European Commission proposes that the charger be sold separately from the electronic devices with which it is compatible. In other words, the Commission wants the charger to be sold alone for the convenience of users and for the aforementioned environmental reason.

At that time, there were 30 different models on the European market which, thanks to the agreement, were reduced to three models – Apple Lightning, USB Type-C and USB 2.0.

The proposal presented today by the European Commission now goes to the European Parliament and Council. If enacted, there will be a transition period of 94 months for the industry to adapt to European guidelines.

According to figures released by Brussels, European users spend approximately 2.4 billion euros a year on chargers. Chargers that stop working generate thousand tons of electronic waste per year.
