Foxconn Technology Group's largest iPhone assembly plant has been largely unaffected by flooding in Henan Province, China, and is preparing to mass-produce the iPhone 13, according to local media reports.
Henan received a record high rainfall last month, displacing more than 1.3 million people from their homes, temporarily relocating to safer locations. On the same day, more than 2,000 Foxconn workers and an additional 600 residents of the province were trapped by flooding. According to a company employee, the water reached the third floor of the staff dorm. However, the situation quickly improved and production resumed at the plant on the evening of July 22, returning to normal levels on July 24. All 14 assembly lines were involved. As of last Saturday, the plant employed more than 200,000 workers.
Foxconn said it is now trying to hire more employees to meet the growing demand for new smartphones. “We currently have many orders that require a lot of manpower, ” said Zhang Zhanwu, deputy manager of Foxconn Technology Group. - We are faced with a shortage of personnel. In the future, we will prioritize the recruitment of those affected by the floods. ”
Faced with a shortage of workers, the plant has increased the cash compensation for new employees to record levels.
Foxconn factories in Zhengzhou are capable of producing up to 500 thousand smartphones per day, which is 80% of all iPhone production in the world. The staff of the company's factories in Zhengzhou is more than 250 thousand people, and during peak periods it exceeds 300 thousand people.
