Rumors: Samsung Galaxy S22 will be equipped with a 50-megapixel RGBW sensor

New leaks appear on the network about the capabilities of smartphones of the flagship line Samsung Galaxy S22, which is expected to be released in early 2022. Judging by the latest of these, the Galaxy S22 series devices, as well as a number of other third-party models, will have a 50MP RGBW sensor .

This news was indirectly confirmed by another popular rumor provider known as Ice Universe. He announced that Samsung's new flagship will be equipped with a 200-megapixel sensor and a 50-megapixel RGBW sensor.

Rumors: Samsung Galaxy S22 will be equipped with a 50-megapixel RGBW sensor

Samsung has previously confirmed that it is developing a "very high resolution" camera; it was later confirmed as "200 Mp". Since it was previously reported that the top-end Galaxy S22 Ultra will retain the current 108-megapixel sensor, the information about the development of the 200-megapixel sensor raised many questions.

Later it became known that the 200 megapixel sensor will be produced in cooperation with the Japanese company Olympus, and it is this sensor that will receive the yet unannounced Galaxy S22 Ultra. It will be part of the smartphone's five-camera configuration.

Other Samsung developments are mentioned in this regard. For example, the company recently announced a 50MP ISOCELL JN1 sensor that uses the world's smallest 0.64μm pixels. In February, the company introduced a 1 / 1.12-inch ISOCELL GN2 50-megapixel sensor with a pixel size of 1.4 microns.

The mention of the creation of a 50MP RGBW sensor may be related to the parallels along which the recent development of 4K TVs has gone. There, in addition to panels with "true" 4K resolution, they also produced pseudo 4K panels with RGBW pixels. If you put a quasi-4K RGBW LED TV and a full RGB 4K UHD TV next to each other, then everyone will notice the reduced picture quality of the RGBW model. However, RGBW panels are significantly cheaper to manufacture than RGB ones. This may explain the reason why Samsung wants to do a similar "trick" with smartphones.
