Scientists shrink a deadly brain tumor for the first time with a magnetic cap

To date, scientists have been able to identify brain tumors with the help of special helmets and artificial intelligence, but now they have been able to take a step towards treating them. Researchers at the achievement of the last  of a hat with the possibility to generate a magnetic field that is used as a deadly brain tumor has reduced to one-third.

Although the 53-year-old patient eventually died of an unrelated injury, a brain scan showed that the method used by the scientists was able to reduce the tumor's volume by 31 percent in a short period of time. This is the first time that scientists have been able to use a non-invasive method to treat a deadly brain cancer called glioblastoma.

The helmet used by the scientists is equipped with three rotating magnets that are connected to an electronic controller based on a microprocessor and powered by a rechargeable battery. As part of the treatment, the patient wore the device for 5 weeks in the clinic and then at home.

The magnetic field created by the helmet was initially applied to the person for 2 hours and then increased to a maximum of 6 hours per day. Eventually, after this time, the volume and mass of the brain tumor decreased by one-third, and there seemed to be a correlation between the duration of treatment and the reduction in tumor size.

The device's inventors, who have received FDA approval for adjuvant therapy, claim that it could one day help treat brain cancer without the need for radiation or chemotherapy:

"Our results create a new world for non-invasive and non-toxic therapies, and there are many exciting opportunities for the future."

Now more research is needed on this hat to see how much it can be counted on to treat brain cancer.
