Electric car fans have long been waiting for this news, and now it's finally confirmed. Chinese car maker NIO this week announced the arrival on the European market with its first model.
The NIO ES8 is the electric SUV that first reaches the Old Continent, landing first in Norway . This will thus be the first market that NIO will attack from July onwards.
Norway's choice could not be more obvious. As William Li, the executive director of NIO, points out, the northern European country is at the forefront of electric mobility.
Although new to Europe, the NIO ES8 has been marketed in China since 2018. It is an SUV with a capacity of up to seven seats, and intended to compete with models such as the Tesla Model X.
The NIO ES8 has two engines and 650 hp. The battery is 100 kWh, promising an autonomy of 499 km in WLTP cycle. Unfortunately, car prices have not yet been revealed, but the first deliveries are scheduled for September.
This will only be NIO's first step in the European market. In 2022 the manufacturer plans to bring the ET7 to Europe. This electric saloon is a competitor to the Tesla Model S and has 1000 km of autonomy in NEDC (close to 750 km in the WLTP cycle).
