In an interview with Eurogamer , The Last of Us 2 screenwriter Halley Gross was asked whether the game could still surprise the players who received the spoilers. The producer did not hesitate to declare a resounding: “for sure!”
This game is 50% bigger than its predecessor. There is a lot of content and hours of cinematics. We have hours and hours of gameplay, exploration and environmental narrative from that part that players saw on State of Play. It will be possible to learn about the factions, both the WLF and the Seraphs.
Gross also pointed out that there is a part of the plot to be explored. Players will discover “the plot installed in Seattle” and none of that is in the leaks. The screenwriter ended the reply with the statement: "nothing will compare to being in Ellie's shoes."
Spoilers did not hurt sales of The Last of Us 2
The spoilers for The Last of Us 2 won't be able to spoil the players' experience any more than they were enough to undermine the number of pre-order orders. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said the title's marketing remains strong.
