Just a couple of days ago we told you about how ProMotion, the technology that brings the high refresh rate to the screens of the iPad Pro, could be about to reach the iPhone. Thanks to this addition, the next generation would have an OLED display capable of switching between 60 Hz and 120 Hz , achieving great fluidity with respect to its predecessors. However, it is still a few months before that moment arrives, and this great novelty could already have been truncated.
For its arrival on the iPhone, which have a much smaller battery than that found in the iPad Pro, as well as a different panel technology, the arrival of the LTPO screens would be necessary. At least, that's what analyst Ross Young indicates via Twitter. The iPhone would not be the first to have these, yes, since the Apple Watch already uses them to achieve features such as the always-on screen of Series 5.
Thanks to the LTPO screens, the devices can vary their refresh rate depending on the needs of each application. For example, when using an always-on display function the speed would be 1Hz. In games and applications that demand it, the speed could reach 120 Hz. In this way, the energy management of the device is much more efficient. The problem is that this year the only mobile phone with an LTPO screen would not be from Apple , but from Samsung.
For 120 Hz, you need LTPO which enables variable refresh so you can operate at 1Hz - 120 Hz and optimize battery life. Only one flagship phone will have LTPO. Will leak it tomorrow with display specs.

About Display Technology. With LTPO, you can vary the display refresh rate from 1Hz to 120 Hz based on the content. In always on mode, 1Hz. In gaming modes, 120 Hz. Big power advantage for Samsung. Apple won't have LTPO until 2021.

Ross Young himself, as indicated by MacRumors, assures that this year Samsung will have the exclusivity of LTPO screens on mobile phones, and that the only one that will have it in its specifications will be the next Galaxy Note. Thus, Apple would have to wait until 2021 to bring this technology to the iPhone, which could mean that Apple finally decides to wait next year to introduce ProMotion without damaging autonomy too much.

Yes, everything is not yet said. And there is still the possibility that, despite the fact that they cannot make use of the LTPO screens on the iPhone, they will take the ProMotion to their devices as well. And the iPad Pro does not have it either. The question is whether Apple is willing to sacrifice the autonomy of its terminals in order to increase the refresh rate.
The ProMotion article could suffer a new delay: LTPO technology would not reach the iPhone this year, it was first published on iPadizate.
