PlayStation 4 surpasses Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 1 in sales

For those who think the console market has already given what it has to give, you have to check out the latest Sony account reports. It's just that PlayStation 4, launched in the "distant" year 2013, sold almost 3 million units between July 1 and September 30 this year, as we reported this week.

PS4 sold 2.8 million units last quarter

We're talking about a seven-year-old console that has just become the second best-selling home console ever. According to Sony's official figures, 2.8 million consoles were shipped during the second quarter of 2019.

These numbers are even more impressive when you consider that PlayStation 4 has just outperformed mythical consoles like PlayStation 1 and Nintendo Wii in sales.

As you can see in the tweet below, the PS4 now has 102.8 million units sold. PS1 is behind with 102.49 million and Nintendo Wii with 101.63 million.

PlayStation 4 is in second place, still far from the lead. Remember that PlayStation 2 is the most successful home console ever, reaching 155 million sales.

Even with PS4 reaching these numbers, Sony saw a drop in console sales during this period. The PS5 is about a year away, but Sony plans to reach 13.5 million PS4 consoles sold during the current fiscal year. Which is fantastic with so much competition, and with Nintendo Switch selling quite well.
