Bytedance, a Chinese technology company that owns the TikTok app, is also poised to enter the mobile market: according to a report in the Financial Times newspaper, the company is developing its own smartphone.
The company had already hinted that it was interested in this market when, in January of this year, it revealed that it had acquired some patents and hired former employees of Smartisan (Chinese electronics company, among them smartphones). At that time, Bytedance had tried to fool around, saying that the company had acquired these patents and these employees to develop solutions for the educational market - a justification that already seemed very strange, since Smartisan had never developed any project with that market in mind.
According to one source who spoke to the Financial Times, Bytedance's founder Zhang Yiming always dreamed of a smartphone that already had all the company's apps pre-installed. And considering that for the first time the company failed to meet growth expectations in the year 2018, launching a smartphone of its own with all its already pre-installed apps can give the "push" in the number of users of your apps that the company need.
The big challenge of the company will be to get into the smartphone market by this time of the championship. This is because the three largest global markets in the industry are already basically congested: China is dominated by four major brands (Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo and OPPO ) and any other manufacturer has extreme difficulty in competing with them; India, the world's second largest smartphone market, is already dominated by Xiaomi, which accounts for 66% of all smartphones sold in the country; and with the current fiscal war between the United States and China, it becomes extremely unlikely that any new brand coming from China will be able to penetrate the country ruled by Trump.
Owner of TikTok, Bytedance should launch its own smartphone
