At a time when Qualcomm excels in the industry, MediaTek launches what it hopes to be a boost in technology. With the integrated Helio M70 5G modem, this one promises not only save space on the phone but also save battery power.
The model announced by MediaTek is far from the speeds achieved by its competitor
The model announced by Mediatek is not as fast as the Qualcomm X55 modem, which offers up to 7Gbps of download. In this case, the great advantage of Mediatek is in offering the already integrated modem.
The 5G Helio M70 modem is supported by the Arm Cortex-A77 CPU and the Mali-G77 graphics. This will be a product that appeals to devices that typically use Mediatek processors. In low-end devices, consumers will have access to the latest technology.
Given the markets in which Mediatek operates, its limitations will no longer be a problem. In addition to 5G technology, the processor will also be backwards compatible with 4G and 2G.
This is a golden time for Intel to enter this 5G mobile market. With Intel out of the race, and with Huawei's problems with the United States, Qualcomm is running out of the competition.
First 5G smartphones with MediaTek processor coming to market in 2020
MediaTek partners will begin receiving the new processor later this year. The builder expects that the first 5G smartphones with MediaTek processors will arrive at the beginning of 2020.
The revelation was made by Mediatek during Computex 2019. This is the largest annual computing event, and is held in the city of Taipei, Taiwan. It extends until the next day June 1.
