Huawei suffers another expulsion, this time from the Wi-Fi Alliance

The Wi-Fi Alliance is the latest association to ban Huawei from its board of companies. Needless to say, this eviction occurred following the US government's order prohibiting US companies from negotiating with the Chinese manufacturer.

Truth be told, this expulsion will not bring immediate negative effects. Huawei is not even banned from manufacturing Wi-Fi equipment. However, in the long run, Huawei will lose influence in the direction of Wi-Fi technologies because it will no longer belong to the alliance.

"The Wi-Fi Alliance is complying with the order of the US Department of Commerce. In that regard, we have temporarily restricted Huawei Technologies' participation in activities covered by the order." - an official statement from the Wi-Fi Alliance.

This expulsion and all others has a deadline until August 19. If an agreement is not reached to resolve this situation between Huawei and the United States, the situation could worsen exponentially.

What is the Wi-Fi Alliance?

The Wi-Fi Alliance is a non-profit association made up of several companies including Apple, Qualcomm, and Intel. The Alliance aims to influence the development of new wireless technologies.

Thus, it is easy to see the problem that Huawei encounters in case this expulsion is sustained for a long time. As the world's second largest manufacturer of mobile phones, they need to have a captive place in all major associations.

If Huawei or China do not want to negotiate, the only other solution is to create a Wi-Fi association of its own or join non-US based ones. However, it is not the most viable solution as the Wi-Fi Alliance influences the global market.

Who has banned Huawei so far?

So far, Huawei has lost business with Google, Android, Qualcomm, Intel, Microsoft, and Arm. This last is the most serious loss as it means the loss of access to all that are architectures and licenses from chips to processors.

Huawei is currently trying to find solutions to everything and 'plug' all the holes. The company has already stated that it is preparing to launch an alternative operating system that will be compatible with Android apps.

The Kirin processors are already manufactured internally although they depend on the licenses to the same. There are also the NanoCards, Huawei's alternative to SD cards, whose association also kicked Huawei off its list.
