That's what two Oxford University researchers wanted to find out once and for all. Both conducted a study to determine the influence of video games on younger minds. In this sense, the researchers interviewed about 1000 teenagers and their parents in the subject. However, the results were not at all alarming.
There is still no link between violent video games and aggressive teenagers
Over time, video games have evolved to become more realistic and violent. Numerous studies have already been done but rather inconclusive. The point is that most researchers ignore their parents' opinions. In this case, the lords of Oxford made a point of approaching the parental side of the thing.
In the first place, the age group of the interviewees was between 14 and 15 years old, of both sexes. Then the interview was directed to the parents. The researchers asked several questions related to video games.
They questioned whether young people felt more aggressive in their daily lives, or specifically after playing a game. Subsequently, parents answered similar questions regarding their perception of their children's behaviour.
The results were several. About two-thirds of boys and half of the girls are regular players. However, no aggressive or even antisocial behaviour was detected.
The only less peaceful behaviour was the frustration of losing a game alone or his friend in a two-way game. However, these are perfectly normal emotions in the heat of competition.
In short, studies to prove that violent video games are not responsible for equal behaviour are not necessarily accurate. Just use our common sense to realize that young people know how to differentiate between a game and reality. Already the addiction in video games, this is legitimate and a growing concern in some parts of the world, especially Asia.
